In 2020, the pandemic hit the music industry hard. Samuel Jacques, a professional jazz pianist, was looking for a new source of income while staying in the music world. He started with teaching, but it wasn't enough for him. So, he decided to go back to school and become a sound engineer at McGill University.
For his application, Samuel had to record several musical pieces to build a portfolio. Therefore, he had to equip his home studio with microphones, a good audio interface, and acoustic panels. However, finding quality acoustic panels at a reasonable price turned out to be a real nightmare. Manufacturers didn't allow online purchases, and some didn't even display their prices.
Since Samuel is handy and has a few tools, he decided to make them himself. Although his first acoustic panels were not very convincing, he was determined to create a functional and aesthetic object. So, he undertook further research and improved his product by using more suitable and durable materials and developing more efficient and robust methods.
And that's when everything changed. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Samuel decided to manufacture an additional quantity of acoustic panels to sell online. He created Studio Solution, an online store to sell his acoustic panels, with clearly displayed prices and offering delivery and installation services.
Success was immediate. In just a few days, all the panels were sold! Samuel quickly hired a musician friend to help him manufacture them and had to find suppliers to meet the growing demand. He dropped out of his sound engineering program at McGill University to dedicate himself full-time to his business.
Today, Studio Solution employs a dozen people who are passionate about music and acoustics.
